If you’re looking for an easy hike with jaw-dropping views in Pinedale, Wyoming, the Sacred Rim Trail absolutely delivers. We recently took my older brother and his wife to experience it for the first time, and by the end, their jaws were on the floor. This short trail leads you straight to one of the most spectacular overlooks of the Wind River Range—a view that defines our little corner of Wyoming.

The Sacred Rim Trail: A Peaceful, Easy Hike Through Evergreen Forests
The trail is gentle from the moment you step onto it. Most of the path winds beneath tall evergreens that keep you shaded and cool. You’ll cross a creek three times, and depending on the season, the water can be rushing or soft—but nothing difficult. Just enough adventure to keep things fun.
Wildlife is everywhere if you slow down and tune in. Squirrels call out constantly, tiny birds flutter from tree to tree, and we even spotted a woodpecker tapping away. Chipmunks darted around our feet, and the air smelled like fresh pine. It’s the kind of trail where you feel wrapped in God’s creation the whole way.

A View of the Wind River Range That Takes Your Breath Away
Before you reach the end, the wilderness teases you with small glimpses of what’s coming. And then—everything opens.
Sacred Rim stops you in your tracks every single time.
The overlook reveals the Wind River Range stretching out to the east, dramatic and wild and impossibly beautiful. It doesn’t matter how familiar you are with this place—God’s handiwork hits you right in the chest.
Marce and Marisol couldn’t believe it. The edge drops off into this stunning basin of peaks and light, and if you get there during sunset, the mountains glow like they’ve been lit from heaven itself.

Best Season to Hike Sacred Rim (And What to Watch Out For)
Late September was perfect for us. The air was crisp, the forest was quiet, and—best part—no mosquitoes. In summer, they can definitely show up.
But here’s your safety reminder:
Afternoon thunderstorms in the Mountain West can roll in fast, especially during monsoon season. Even when the forecast looks harmless, storms can appear out of nowhere. If you see lightning, hear thunder, or notice heavy cloud buildup, turn back immediately. Out here, respecting the weather is respecting the wilderness.

Relaxing at the Overlook: Enjoy the Wind, the Silence, and the Moment
At the end of the trail, big boulders are scattered everywhere, perfect for sitting and soaking it all in. Take a deep breath. Let the wind hit your face. Enjoy the silence. Thank God for moments like this. Celebrate that you made it.
We stayed there for about an hour—just resting, admiring the view, and letting the peace of the mountains settle in.

The Hike Back: Quick, Easy, and Beautiful
The return trip is super easy since you’re heading downhill. Once you reconnect with the main trail, you’re practically back at the trailhead. It’s the kind of hike that leaves you refreshed instead of exhausted.
