Family in the Morning Light
There is something quietly humbling about watching a large family of Canada geese move together across the water and grass, each one held by the same rhythm, the same instinct, the same design. That morning the light was soft and low, brushing everything in a warm gold that made even the smallest details feel intentional—feathers catching glow, ripples holding reflections like memory.
I’ve always been curious about their transformation. The way they begin life as bright yellow goslings, so different from the strong silhouettes they will grow into. I finally witnessed that in real time. They came close enough that I could see them clearly—little bundles of softness, almost like stuffed animals learning the world for the first time, unaware of how far they’ve already come. That kind of closeness doesn’t happen by accident. It takes patience, stillness, and a willingness to wait through wind, discomfort, and silence until creation decides to reveal itself.
In that moment I felt the quiet hand of God in it all—not distant, but present in the details, in the timing, in the trust it takes for wildlife to let you near. These geese didn’t just pass through the frame; they invited me into their world for a brief second of honesty.
