Held in Golden Silence
Mourning doves are familiar silhouettes in everyday life—perched on wires, rooftops, fences—easy to overlook. But this moment asked for something different from me. It required patience, stillness, and the willingness to wait in the quiet until everything aligned the way it was meant to.
Early morning light moved gently across the scene, soft and golden, the kind of light that doesn’t announce itself but rather blesses everything it touches. In that glow, the doves became something more than ordinary. Their feathers revealed warm tones of peach, soft ash-gray, and fine white edges that felt almost hand-brushed. It didn’t feel like I created the image—it felt like I was simply allowed to witness it.
One of them paused just long enough for me to see its turquoise eyelids blink slowly, calm and aware, as if it understood the stillness too. In that breath of time, everything felt held—like God was reminding me that beauty is not distant or rare. It’s already here, woven into the quiet corners of our days, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice.
