The Sandhill Cranes Singing for Me
Some moments exist to remind you why patience matters. I had been sitting quietly at the edge of a pond, heart full of hope but unsure if anything would appear, when a sound cut through the morning air—distinctive, raw, and urgent. Four sandhill cranes emerged against the sun, blending perfectly into the landscape, yet impossible to ignore. For two hours, I followed them, crouched low in willows, feeling their awareness and trust. By the time I pressed the shutter, we had shared an hour together, and their calls seemed to fill every corner of the field.
The light softened their silhouettes, painting their feathers in golds and warm tones, turning a fleeting encounter into something almost tangible. You can feel the damp grass underfoot, smell the cool pond water, and hear their passionate calls echoing through the morning. God’s presence was undeniable, quiet yet powerful, in the rhythm of their singing and the stillness that held us all.
