I had been so focused on photographing a distant Yellow-Headed Blackbird when I realized something much closer was waiting for me. A curious American Robin hopped right up near me, so close I could’ve petted him if I wanted to. He was busy searching for worms, hopping around with such determination, that I couldn’t help but laugh.

Known as the announcer of spring, American Robins are some of the first birds to return after winter. They bring with them their cheerful songs and a hunger for food, often found hopping through lawns and forests.

These little fellows live up to six years, although the oldest recorded Robin lived nearly twelve years! It’s a reminder of the beauty of life, even in the smallest creatures.
