The struggle was real with Cuache, who was eager to jump into Boulder Lake and get closer to the Eared Grebe. He sat patiently on a rock, though, while I delighted in watching and photographing the bird. Eared Grebes are such fascinating creatures. I learn something new each time I observe them. As I edit the photos, I notice the little details, like how their fluffy back feathers and golden eye tufts flatten when they dive. They move with such fluidity underwater, stretching their necks as they search for food, and then diving to create perfect ripples on the surface.
