When I finally found my spot, I set up my Sony A7III with the 200-600mm lens and extender, eager for the first signs of movement. To my delight, a pair of Mountain Bluebirds appeared just as I finished preparing. They watched me carefully, their keen eyesight able to spot insects from an astonishing 50 yards away.

The female carried bits of material in her bill, hard at work building a nest, while the male stood guard, protecting their territory. Mountain Bluebirds can raise two, sometimes even three, broods each season—an incredible display of teamwork and resilience.
