Capturing this tree swallow coming out of his house was an experience I won’t forget. We were thrilled last spring when we discovered that our neighbor’s tree swallow had moved into our birdhouse.

On a chilly Saturday morning, before sunrise, I set up my tripod and camera, waiting for the first light to reveal the swallows. It didn’t take long before the action started. These little birds are fast—darting in and out, never sitting still for long. Photographing them was a challenge, but patience paid off, and I walked away with some incredible shots. This one is my favorite.
