We briefly walked before Conor saw an open spot that popped us into the lake. As we were coming in, Conor saw something in the Water. He found an American Beaver family.

This large semi-aquatic rodent has an essential role in the West. Mountain man used to trap them for their fur. Making them one of the reasons why the American West was founded.

I was observing probably a male adult and a kit. The beaver dads are in charge of showing the kits how to eat plants. I had the opportunity to see them interact with each other while eating one of their favorite food, aspens.

They are fast swimmers. They can reach up to 5 miles an hour. and hold their breath underwater for 15 minutes.

They love to modify their environment by building lodges and dams, but we couldn’t find the lodge of these two beavers.
