I fought with one of my dogs to take these fantastic Eared Grebe shots.

The struggle was real. Cuache wanted to jump in Boulder Lake to bring him closer to me. He was a good boy and sat at a rock.

On the other hand, I was delighted to see this Eared Grebe close. I enjoy taking photos of them. I learn a lot about them on the fly. After when I edit them, I love them even more. You can verify the behaviors of the birds. While swimming, Eared Grebles stretches their necks and looks into the water they are searching for food. They eat aquatic invertebrates, especially brine shrimp and brine flies, and occasionally small fish, mollusk, or amphibians. As soon as they see something, they dive into the water creating perfect circles.

When you see them swimming, their back feathers are fluffy, and so as their golden feathers on their eyes. But when they dive, they collapse those feathers. I think they do this to be able to move faster underwater. I noticed it more when I edited the photos I took that day.

It’s so wonderful to spend time with my little birdies.

No dogs or eared grebes were hurt.
