When the Tetons Went Silent
In the quiet of the Grand Teton, I found myself alone with a moose—and what happened next will make your heart race.
I had been scanning the horizon when I spotted his massive silhouette against the soft morning light, and I knew I had only moments. The Lord guided me to a place to park, and I hurried, tripod in hand, weaving through early arrivals who were already gathering at the road. Every step was a mix of adrenaline and awe, the crisp mountain air carrying the earthy scent of cottonwood and wet grass. The moose moved deliberately, calm yet aware, and as he began to melt into the trees, the crowd drifted away—leaving me alone in a moment that felt almost eternal.
The light was breathtaking, golden hues brushing the ridges, illuminating the moose’s fur and the texture of the cottonwood bark. I could feel the quiet hum of nature, the gentle rustle of leaves, and the weight of being in the presence of something sacred. Waiting, moving, anticipating—it all mattered, because these few fleeting seconds allowed me to capture more than just an image; I captured a story, a connection, a reminder that God’s creation is patient, powerful, and profoundly beautiful.
