The people who live in Sublette County make this place great. It is a small, tight community whose core is real cowboys mixed with industrial workers.
I grew up in a very different environment. When we decided to stay in Sublette County, we had to embrace the culture that surrounded us. I see the greatness of God and live through my photos. I needed a project that meant a warm welcome to Sublette County.
I followed the Bousman’s Ranch for an entire year on their activities. I met Kari Bousman at Food Distribution, which the Pinedale Food Basket organizes. Hearing she and her family had a ranch sparked the idea that I needed.

Cotton and Kari opened their ranch and their family to me, allowing me to follow them in their daily activities. It’s amazing how human beings can adapt to their environments. Pinedalians and the Bousman family are great examples of that.
I admire the Cowboys around here—no matter the weather conditions, they care for their livelihood. Cowboys honor their traditions and knowledge about the land and animals.

I have never seen a working dog before. It’s incredible how they help move the cattle, and it’s very impressive to watch.
Sublette County is a place where you can feel stuck in time. That’s the reason why all the photos are in black and white.
